Lexmark is playing a big role in this year’s Kentucky Science and Engineering Fair (KY-SEF) for 2014, casting a wider net in its support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. After sponsoring last year’s KY-SEF winners to the international science fair in Phoenix, Lexmark has moved to full sponsorship of the fair this year.
“With Lexmark’s philanthropic focus on diversity and education – specifically STEM – our participation in KY-SEF is a perfect fit,” said Jeri Isbell, vice president, human resources. “We are proud to support this event and hope to help inspire future scientists and engineers.”
Lexmark employees have been working hard to prepare for the event. Lexmark engineers will be on hand to help judge and coordinate the event.
KY-SEF’s mission is to expand educational opportunities for all middle and high school students, and to enhance the visibility and importance of science and engineering in Kentucky, by providing annual statewide competitions that support, encourage and recognize student excellence in science and engineering research.
As the name sponsor, Lexmark has been working to enhance the event, including helping KY-SEF organizers develop a brand for this year’s fair, design a new website, and automate registration for students, judges and volunteers.
The fair will be held on March 29 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. and is open to the public. To help create excitement and encourage traffic at the fair, Lexmark is adding science vendor stations representing organizations like Alltech, the Kentucky Science Center, Newton’s Attic, Bluegrass Greensource, and KET .
There will also be two Lexmark tables: one promoting our STEM corporate initiatives and the other teaching science through hands-on activities for the students.
The vendor stations are open to the public on March 29 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Projects entered into the fair can be viewed by the public from 2 to 3:45pm.
